Lacrosse Takes William Peace to Overtime

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team (2-6) took the William Peace University Pacers (1-4, 0-2 USA South) to overtime before falling by a score of 10-9.

Junior Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.) got the scoring started at the 13:37 mark of the first quarter off a pass from senior Renée Taylor (York, Pa.).

A tally from the Pacers to tie things up would be the only other goal scored in the first.

Junior Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) found the back of the net on a woman-up opportunity, but William Peace would once again tie things up less than a minute later.

The Vixens then went on a four-goal scoring run with tallies from Cleaves, sophomore Ashley Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.), senior Mackenzie Patterson (Chesterfield, Va.), junior Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) to take a 6-3 lead entering half time.

Cleaves' third of the game to kick off the third quarter increased Sweet Briar's lead to four before the Pacers got their fourth of the game with five seconds remaining.

Additional tallies from Cleaves and Foster would give the team its largest lead of the day with the score at 9-4, however, the Pacers would begin to pick up momentum to mount the comeback.

William Peace finished the game with five-straight goals to tie things up at nine and send action into overtime.

The visitors found the back of the net with just over a minute remaining in the first overtime period to take home the 10-9 victory.

In goal, senior Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Calif.) recorded 12 saves.

Highlights
  • Cleaves led the team with four ground balls while Foster totaled three caused turnovers.
  • The four draw controls won by Sweet Briar came from Cleaves (3) and Prevet (1).
