SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The No. 49 Sweet Briar College tennis team (13-1, 5-0 ODAC) remained perfect in conference play and at home with an 8-1 victory over the Shenandoah University Hornets (4-6, 2-2 ODAC).
The Vixens went up 3-0 early with wins in all three doubles matches. The duo of Caracciolo/van Eekelen took down Hatseras/Talk, 8-4, at the No. 3 spot while Caro/I. Guilarte defeated Cherwien/Stepleman, 8-5.
The No. 1 doubles team of A. Guilarte/Patino pulled out ahead with a hard-fought 8-7 (8-6) victory against Guzzo/Spruill.
Sweet Briar continued its dominance in singles play, taking five out of the six matches.
Junior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) was the first to conclude her match thanks to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles over Olivia Guzzo.
First-year
Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) was perfect in her first set; defeating Erin Talko, 6-0, at the No. 6 slot before taking the second set, 6-2.
Both junior
Maria Caro (Bogota Colombia) and
Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) earned 6-1, 6-2 victories No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
Bringing the Vixens to their 8-1 victory was sophomore
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) who took down Ariella Stepleman, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 singles.
Highlights
- Lima improves to 9-0 on the dual season.
- Guilarte is undefeated in No. 2 singles matches with a 4-0 record and now holds the program record for most career singles wins.
