Sweet Briar Tabs Devon Schmitz for Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar College Department of Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Devon Schmitz as the college's new Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer. Her first day with the college will be August 19th.
 
Schmitz comes to Sweet Briar from William Woods University where she was the head athletic trainer for the Owls and responsible for the healthcare of over 900 student-athletes. During her four years in Missouri, Schmitz provided day-to-day coverage of  26 varsity sports, executed rehabilitation programs for non-surgical, pre-operative and post-operative injuries and coordinated outside medical treatment.
 
"I am incredibly thrilled to be joining the Sweet Briar team," remarked Schmitz. "I'd like to thank Jason and the rest of the administration for this opportunity, and I can't wait to get started!"

As we continue to develop our health, safety and well-being protocols for our student-athletes, I have the utmost confidence that she will help us lead the way forward."
 
Other duties while at William Woods included providing First Aid and CPR/AED training and serving as a member of the institution's COVID Committee, CARES Team Committee and Athletics and Academic Committee.
 
Prior to William Woods, Schmitz served as the head athletic trainer at Berkshire Soccer Academy for three seasons while also working as the graduate assistant athletic trainer at Missouri Western State University.
 
Schmitz earned her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Washburn University in 2018 before going on to earn a Master of Applied Science in Sports and Fitness Management from Missouri Western State University in 2020 and a Master of Health Administration from William Woods in 2023.
 
A member of the National Athletic Training Association (NATA), Schmitz also holds certifications in dry needling, First Aid/CPR/AED instruction, First Aid/CPR/AED for professional rescuers and youth mental health first aid among others.
