SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar College is proud to announce the selection of Matthew Davidson as the College's full-time head strength and conditioning coach.
Davidson served the College in a part-time capacity this past academic year and will make the transition to full-time thanks to an endowed fund.
During the 2025-26 season, Davidson helped develop and implement weekly team workouts and in-season strength-and-conditioning sessions for the Vixens.
Along with his strength and conditioning coaching duties, Davidson also serves as a personal trainer at both The Heroes Home and the YMCA of Central Virginia, where he designs individual training programs, coaches group fitness classes focused on strength and cardiovascular training, and teaches introductory movement patterns along with proper lifting technique for injury prevention and maintenance.
Prior to Sweet Briar, Davidson completed an Olympic Performance internship at Liberty University, where he assisted sports performance coaches in weight training and conditioning for Liberty's student-athletes, and provided education on warm-ups, progressions/regressions, energy system development, and key performance indicators.
Davidson is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
A 2023 graduate of Liberty University, Davidson earned a bachelor's in exercise science – therapeutic science while also competing on the club swim team. Davidson went on to complete his master's in human performance - strength and conditioning from Liberty in 2026.
