SALEM, Va. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (3-3-0, 0-1-0 ODAC) opened up Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play this afternoon against the Roanoke College Maroons (1-5-2, 1-0-0), falling by a score of 8-0.
The Vixens held strong against the Maroons, a team that was picked to finish fifth in the conference's preseason poll, for the first 20+ minutes of action.
The home team tallied its first goal of the game at the 28:20 minute and followed it up with three more in the next 10 minutes to take a 4-0 lead into halftime.
Sweet Briar held Roanoke scoreless for nearly the first thirty minutes of the second half as well before another flurry of goals by the Maroons gave them an 8-0 lead.
A scoreless final 12 minutes of action closed the game out in favor of Roanoke.
In goal, senior
Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) recorded a season-high 19 saves.

- Senior Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) led the team in shots and shots on goal.
- Today's game marks the first time since 2017 that the Maroons took a lead less than five goals into halftime.
