DEMOREST, Ga. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team opened up its 2024-25 campaign today with a 15-0 showing through day one of the Piedmont Invite.
The Vixens won all 12 singles matches contested by host Piedmont with seniors
Maria Caro (Bogota, Colombia),
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) and junior
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) all winning two matches on the day.
Caro took down Drea Robinson, 6-2, 6-1, before going on to not concede a single game in her 6-0, 6-0 victory over Sarah Sanabia.
I. Guilarte defeated both Carolina Morrison and Jordan Ballard by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively. Fellow senior
Ana Patino started the day with a 6-3, 6-3 takedown of Bri Laidman and followed that victory up with a 7-5, 6-2 win against Brooklyn Bolch.
A. Guilarte battled to victories in both her matches with a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) win over Abby Gayle Moody and a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) victory against Dannie Evans.
Junior
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) defeated Hollan Rabensdorf, 6-3, 7-5, while sophomore
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) earned a 7-5, 6-1 win against Kameron London in her lone match of the day.
Sophomores
Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) and
Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) also started their seasons off with wins as Caracciolo took down Drea Robinson, 6-1, 6-1 and Lima earned a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory over Amanda Barrett.
Highlights
- In doubles play, the duo of A. Guilarte/Patino earned a 6-3 win over Hulicki/Subirats of Methodist.
- Caro/I. Guilarte and Caracciolo/Lima both earned 6-2 wins over Methodist duos Tihanovich/Willocks and Parker/Sechrist, respectively.
