Field Hockey Drops to Randolph-Macon in OT

ASHLAND, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (2-7, 0-3 ODAC) drops to the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets (8-3, 2-0 ODAC), falling in overtime by a score of 1-0.

In the first quarter, Sweet Briar faced early pressure but remained organized at the back, limiting Randolph-Macon's attacking opportunities. Sophomore Reiyn Hart (Bridgton, Maine) registered two key saves to keep the game deadlocked at 0-0.

The second quarter saw Sweet Briar continue its disciplined defensive play. While Randolph-Macon intensified their shot count and penalty corners, Hart was again called on for big moments between the pipes, making five saves during the period. A standout chance for the Vixens came when junior Gigi Hutman (Bordentown, N.J.) forced a save from Randolph-Macon's goalie.

Coming out of the halftime break, Sweet Briar displayed more offensive intent, notching four shots in the third quarter. Both junior Emmi Burdine (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Hutman were active in the attacking, drawing saves and earning penalty corners, while senior Carlina Christy (Denver, Pa.) and sophomore Larkin Shire (Caroline County, Va.) made important contributions defensively.
.
In the fourth quarter, Sweet Briar showed resilience, generating three more shots and earning another penalty corner. E. Burdine and Christy challenged the opposing goalie but were unable to break the deadlock.

Overtime ultimately tipped the contest. Hart was called upon for a remarkable six saves as the Yellow Jackets pushed for a winner.
