SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (4-11-0, 0-10-0 ODAC) closed out the 2025 season at home against the Roanoke College Maroons (9-8-1, 6-4-0 ODAC) this evening, falling by a score of 11-0.
In the first half, the Maroons dominated the field, scoring nine goals. Sweet Briar was unable to penetrate Roanoke's defense effectively, as the Vixens found themselves on the defensive, facing a barrage of shots, culminating in a 9-0 deficit by halftime.
The second half saw continued dominance by Roanoke, albeit at a slightly reduced pace, as they added two more goals. Sweet Briar's goalkeeper, junior
Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.), faced an intense workload with 11 saves, showing resilience in goal despite the score line. The Vixens managed to increase their shot count, firing seven shots compared to Roanoke's nine. Players like juniors
Alexis Diaz (Connelly Springs, N.C.) and
Emily Michel (Centennial, Colo.) were active offensively in the second half, with Diaz taking multiple shots and Michel playing through the entirety of the match. Despite valiant defensive efforts from Sweet Briar's backline, including defenders sophomore
Kaelin Hanson (Los Alamos, N.M.) and first-year
Abby Broom (Sylva, N.C.), who played the full 90 minutes, Roanoke continued to find scoring opportunities.
Highlights
- Viccora closes out the season with six games where she amassed double-digit saves and ranks second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) in saves per game with an average of 8.27.
- Diaz will conclude the season second in total shots in the conference with her five tonight, bringing her 2025 total to 66 and an average of 4.40 per game.
