SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College volleyball team (0-19) faced off against the Mary Baldwin University Fighting Squirrels (7-18, 0-13 USA South) this evening to close out home action for 2025. The Vixens fell to the Fighting Squirrels in straight sets, 25-5, 25-18 and 25-13.
The first set saw Sweet Briar battling through a tough start, ending with a pair of kills. Junior
Emily Roberts (Walkertown, N.C.) delivered one kill while fellow junior
Gracyn Wright (Rock Hill, S.C.). Wright also led the team with five digs in the opening set, showcasing defensive hustle.
In the second set, Sweet Briar improved their offensive output, collecting six kills and posting a .185 hitting percentage. Junior
Isabella Peregrine (Liberty, Mo.) and Wright were standouts, notching two kills each, while senior
Davis Shiflett (Louisa, Va.) provided a spark with a .500 hitting percentage on four swings. Wright also added three digs, demonstrating all-around effort for the team. Roberts played a key role on defense and delivered one solo block and one block assist.
The third set was marked by Sweet Briar's persistent effort, recording two kills. Roberts and Wright again paced the offense, each registering one kill. Wright led Sweet Briar with four kills overall, while Peregrine, Roberts and Shiflett contributed two.
Highlights
- Sweet Briar's second-set score of 18 marks the highest single-set score recorded by the program this season.
- Shiflett, senior Stella Ball (Salt Lake City, Utah) and sophomore Mila Mutabdzija (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) all recorded their first career block assists tonight.
