ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (3-1, 1-0 ODAC) opened up spring break action yesterday evening against the No. 20 Kenyon College Owls (4-3, 1-0 NCAC).
The Vixens started the match off strong with the duo of Guilarte/Patino leading Kenyon's No. 1 doubles team of Lazaridou/Nouaime 3-0. Ultimately, the Owls would take the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1, 6-1 at No. 2 and 6-0 at No. 3.
In singles play, sophomore
Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) took five games from her opponent at the No. 3 flight, falling by scores of 6-3, 6-2.
Junior
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) also performed well while facing Shadia Amado Aguad at No. 2, seeing set scores of 6-1, 6-3 in favor of Amado Aguad.
Also taking games in their singles matches against the nationally-ranked Owls were senior
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) at No. 1, sophomore
Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) at No. 4 and junior
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) at No. 6.
Highlights
- The Vixens' three doubles games won at No. 1 doubles matches the team's best score from when the two teams met during the 2022-23 season while Kenyon was ranked No. 30.
What's Next
Action in Florida will continue on Wednesday as Sweet Briar takes on St. Catherine and Franciscan.
