Softball Overpowered by No. 18 Randolph-Macon

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College softball team (16-20, 3-15 ODAC) was overpowered by the No. 18 Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets (30-6, 15-3 ODAC) in today's doubleheader.
 
The Yellow Jackets prevailed in a shortened, five-inning, game one, 10-0, and took game two by a score of 5-0.
 
Game One
 
Randolph-Macon got its bats hot right out of the gate with five runs in the first inning before tacking on an additional run in the second to go up 6-0.
 
The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to eight following the conclusion of the top of the third.
 
After a scoreless fourth inning of action, the visitors tallied two more runs to take the 10-0 victory after the fifth.
 
First-year Abi Sawyers (Matthews, N.C.) got the start in the circle while juniors Anna Smith (Rocky Mount, Va.) and Alyssa O'Quinn (Powhatan, Va.) saw action in relief.
 
At the plate, sophomore Emma Staton (Buckingham, Va.) got the lone hit for Sweet Briar and recorded one of two stolen bases along with junior Lauren Jamerson (Buckingham, Va.).
 
Game Two
 
Randolph-Macon once again took an early lead in game two of today's doubleheader after scoring its first run in the top of the first inning.
 
Both teams would be held scoreless for the next four innings before the Yellow Jackets doubled their lead to two in the sixth.
 
A three-run top of the seventh by the visitors saw the game come to its 5-0 conclusion.
 
Sophomore Ambyre Taylor (Arrington, Va.) pitched a complete game and struck out two while fellow sophomore Jordan Martin (Wilmington, N.C.) recorded the only stolen base for the Vixens in the game.
 
Highlights
  • Staton recorded a career-high eight put-outs at second base in game two while also earning five assists on her way to a 1.000 field percentage.
  • Jamerson's stolen base total now sits at 25, the fourth most in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
What's Next
The Vixens will close out the 2025 season next week with action at Randolph on April 23rd and against No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan on the 26th.
