Softball Concludes Season Against No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College softball team (16-24, 3-19 ODAC) concluded the 2025 regular season with a doubleheader against the No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins (36-3-1, 21-1 ODAC).
 
Both games went to five innings with the Marlins taking game one, 10-0, and game two, 13-0.
 
Game One
Virginia Wesleyan got the scoring started early with three runs in the first inning.
 
The visitors then tacked on five runs in the second and two in the third to extend their lead to 10.
 
With both teams held scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, the game came to a 10-0 close in. favor of Virginia Wesleyan following the conclusion of the fifth inning.
 
Junior Alyssa O'Quinn (Powhatan, Va.) got the start for Sweet Briar in the circle and was followed in the game by sophomores Ambyre Taylor (Arrington, Va.) and Ruby Hite (Clarksville, Va.).
 
On the bases, sophomore Lacey Steppe (Charlotte County, Va.) recorded the only stolen base of the game for Sweet Briar.
 
Game Two
The Marlins picked up where they left off in game two of the doubleheader with six runs in the top of the first inning.
 
Scoreless innings for both teams would separate a two-run third and five-run fifth for Virginia Wesleyan, bringing the game to 13-0 after action in the bottom of the fifth.
 
First-year Annie Purvis (Madison Heights, Va.) saw one struck out while sophomore Abi Sawyers (Matthews, N.C.) struck out two in 4.1 innings. Junior Anna Smith (Rocky Mount, Va.) also saw action in the circle for Sweet Briar.
 
Both sophomores Jordan Dorrier (Buckingham, Va.) and Jordan Martin (Wilmington, N.C.) got hits for the Vixens with Dorrier getting a single to left field and Martin a single to center field.
 
Highlights
  • Hite gave up zero runs in her two innings of work in game for her first scoreless outing the season.
  • Martin concludes the season with a hit in all but two doubleheader series contested. 
What's Next
The Vixens will now begin preparations for the 2026 season.
