SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (15-7, 8-2 ODAC) captured the first ECAC Division III Women's Tennis title in program history today with a 4-1 win over the Baruch College Bearcats (12-5, 5-0 CUNYAC).
The Vixens started the match off strong, nabbing the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
The duo of Minton/Venturi made quick work at the No. 3 slot against Moreno/Rojas with a 6-1 victory while Bovard/Caracciolo took down Calvo/Yadav, 6-4, at No. 2.
Junior
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) put Sweet Briar up 2-0 with her No. 5 singles match against Jacqueline Moreno. Bovard was perfect with set scores of 6-0, 6-0.
First-year
Ari Venturi (Richmond, Va.) also had a strong showing at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 routing of Brianna Augustin to put the team just one win away from the championship title.
The crown was secured by sophomore
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) who defeated Maria Calvo, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4.

- Bovard was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Championship.
- Sweet Briar took down Baruch in the two program's first-ever meeting.
