Soccer Rolls Past Trinity Washington

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (3-1, 0-0 ODAC) rolled past the Trinity Washington University Tigers (0-4), earning a 10-0 victory.

In the first half, the Vixens set the tone early with a barrage of shots and clinical finishing, scoring seven unanswered goals. First-year Sadie Swart (Bowie, Md.) found the back of the net three times before halftime, opening the scoring at the 15th minute and adding two more unassisted goals before the break. Additional goals came from sophomore Yadira Castrejon (Connelly Springs, N.C.) and first-years Violet Walsh (Chesterfield County, Va.), Elena Fomin (Middlesex County, Va.), whose goal was assisted by fellow first-year Charity Tynes (Midlothian, Va.) and Abby Broom, assisted by junior Alexis Diaz (Connelly Springs, N.C.). By the intermission, Sweet Briar had taken 26 shots, 21 of which were on target, while Trinity Washington failed to record a single shot, and Sweet Briar amassed a 7-0 lead by halftime.

The second half saw the Vixens continue their impressive display, adding three more goals to their total. Junior Emily Michel (Centennial, Colo.) scored early in the half, followed by a goal from sophomore Electra McPherson (Madison Heights, Va.) just a few minutes later, both unassisted. Tynes capped off the scoring with a goal assisted by sophomore Grady O'Donnell (Richmond, Va.), rounding out the Vixens' tally at ten. The Vixens tallied a total of 38 shots in the game, with 32 on target, while Trinity Washington still could not muster a shot. Sweet Briar's defense allowed zero opportunities and remained disciplined until the final whistle.

First-year goalie Katie Kreska (West Lawn, Pa.) earned her first collegiate win and clean sheet, and the Vixens' attacking depth was further highlighted by multiple players getting in on goal-scoring and assisting action in a one-sided second half.

Highlights
  • Broom, Fomin, Tynes and Walsh all recorded their first collegiate goals tonight.
