OWING MILLS, Md. – The Sweet Briar College volleyball team (0-10) competed in its first tri-meet of the 2025 season, seeing action at the Stevenson University Mustangs (6-5, 1-0 MAC) and against the Pennsylvania State University York Nittany Lions (11-1, 5-0 PSUAC) today.
The Vixens fell to the Mustangs, 3-0, with set scores of 25-4, 25-3 and 25-10 and to the Nittany Lions, 3-0, with set scores of 25-4, 25-7 and 25-3.
vs. Stevenson
The first set began with Stevenson quickly taking control through a series of strong serves and kills. Sweet Briar was unable to recover from Stevenson's early momentum and lost the opening set 25-4.
Moving into the second set, Sweet Briar attempted to settle into the match, but Stevenson continued to apply pressure with effective serving runs and aggressive net play. Stevenson took the second set, winning 25-3, while Sweet Briar had a handful of successful attacks over the entire frame.
In the third set, Sweet Briar found more success on offense, notably achieving more kills and reducing attack errors compared to the prior sets. Despite the brief improvement in attacking, Stevenson's consistency and strong defense prevented Sweet Briar from building momentum, resulting in the final set score of 25-10.

In the opening set, Sweet Briar managed one kill, which came from first-year
Rachael Hunt (Willow Spring, N.C.) off a set assist from fellow first-year
Makena Huewe (Walker, Minn.).
In the second set, the Vixens earned a point off a service ace from Huewe while capitalizing on attacking errors by the Nittany Lions.
In the third and final set, Sweet Briar was able to notch one kill, once again from Hunt,s with the assist going to Huewe, while additional service errors from Penn State York brought its point total up even further.
Highlights
- Hunt totaled two solo blocks against Stevenson.
- Huewe's ace against Penn State York was the first of her career.

The Vixens will hit the road to take on Hollins on Sept. 30th and Clinton on Oct. 1st.
