ROANOKE, Va. – The Sweet Briar College volleyball team (0-11) was topped Hollins University (7-9, 0-4 ODAC) in three-set action tonight with set scores of 25-8, 25-11 and 25-7 going in favor of the home team.
In the opening set, Sweet Briar secured eight points while Hollins steadily pulled away behind several service aces and kills. Kills were registered by junior
Isabella Peregrine (Liberty, Mo.) and first-year
Rachael Hunt (Willow Spring, N.C.).
The second set saw Sweet Briar put up one of its best fights, reaching double digits for the first time in the match with 11 points. Despite the pressure from Hollins, the Vixens managed brief moments scoring consecutive points, with kills once again being generated by Hunt, senior
Clara Delattre (Long Lake, Minn.) and juniors
Emily Roberts (Walkertown, N.C.) and
Gracyn Wright (Rock Hill, S.C.).
Moving on to the third set, the team registered a few more kills. However, Hollins maintained offensive consistency and took control early. Roberts and Wright got on the board with kills in the third set as well as the Vixens totaled seven points.
Highlights
- Wright recorded a Sweet Briar career-high of 10 digs this evening.
- Hunt and sophomore Mila Mutabdzija (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) also racked up their dig counts with seven and six, respectively.
