LEXINGTON, Va. – The Sweet Briar College swim team (0-2, 0-1 ODAC) got its first taste of dual action this afternoon in a double-dual against the Division I Virginia Military Institute Keydets and Hollins University (1-1).
The meet opened with first-year
MaryJane Ligday (Mechanicsville, Va.) placing fifth in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:10.56. In the 200-yard freestyle, junior
Karissa Boyce (Red Rock, Texas) finished sixth in 3:18.04, followed by junior
Catherine Schofield (Baltimore, Md.) in seventh at 3:24.44.
Junior
Emily Carter (Kermit, W. Va.) paced Sweet Briar in the 50-yard backstroke, taking fourth in 38.35. Senior
Julia Elliott (Norfolk, Va.) followed in fifth with a time of 46.49, while sophomore
Ava Powers (Crandall, Texas) placed sixth in 47.65. In the 50-yard breaststroke, first-year
Lizzy Leotaud (Tucson, Ariz.) finished fifth in 50.19, and junior
Carlee Minyard (Jacksonville, Va.) took sixth in 1:02.55.
Junior
Rauwen Panchmatia (Farmville, Va.) led the Vixens in the 50-yard freestyle with a fifth-place finish in 33.82. Carter placed sixth in 35.71, Schofield finished eighth in 38.69 and sophomore
Gracie Sheridan (Waynesboro, Va.) took ninth in 39.53.
Following Ligday's fourth-place performance in the 100-yard freestyle, Panchmatia finished sixth in 1:21.24. Elliott placed eighth in 1:24.29, and Powers finished ninth in 1:28.85. Leotaud and Minyard joined Ligday in the 100-yard breaststroke, placing seventh and eighth with respective times of 1:51.63 and 2:15.46.
After Boyce's third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 8:55.75, Elliott took ninth in the 50-yard butterfly in 47.73, while Boyce finished 10th in 51.67.
Sweet Briar closed the meet with two top-three finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Ligday, Carter, Elliott and Schofield teamed up to place second in 2:18.38. The quartet of Panchmatia, Leotaud, Minyard and Powers followed in third with a time of 2:35.01.
Highlights
- Panchmatia saw action in her first collegiate meet today.
- Ligday's fourth-place finishes came in times of 1:02.01 and 1:20.75 in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke, respectively.
- Sweet Briar picked up four wins against Hollins, three from Ligday and one from Carter.
