SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (0-1, 0-1 ODAC) opened up the spring season with an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup against the University of Lynchburg Hornets (2-1, 2-1 ODAC).
The Vixens dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to the Hornets in late-afternoon/early-evening play, with Sweet Briar earning a straight-sets win at the top singles spot and adding another point in the middle of the lineup.
After Lynchburg secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, Sweet Briar's No. 1 team of seniors
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) and
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) delivered a convincing 6–2 win over Kosiorek/Lima to get the hosts on the board in pairs play.
In singles, Guilarte put together a standout performance at No. 1, grinding out a straight-set victory over Kosiorek by scores of 6–3, 7–6 (7–4) to give Sweet Briar its first singles point of the afternoon. Junior
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) followed with another strong effort for the Vixens at No. 3, taking down Giovana Gaboardi 6–2, 7–5 to secure Sweet Briar's second team point and keep the match within reach. Despite those wins, Lynchburg closed out the team result with straight-sets victories at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles, as well as at the bottom two doubles positions, to claim the overall 5–2 outcome.

- Minton remains undefeated in single play overall with a 3-0 record.
- Senior Megan Vess (Goodview, Va.) and sophomore Gianna Guadagno (Huntington Beach, Calif.) saw action in their first collegiate tennis match.
