SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (1-6, 1-3 ODAC) dropped a tight 4-3 decision to the Shenandoah University Hornets (2-7, 1-2 ODAC) on Sunday afternoon at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Vixens saw a victory on court one with a 7-5 win by seniors
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) and
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela).
Victories in singles play were garnered by Guilarte, junior
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) and sophomore
Ari Venturi (Richmond, Va.).
Guilarte took down Atlee Hillard at the top spot, 7-5, 6-1, while Minton got the best of Erin Talk at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 5 singles, Venturi took the win against Kendra Gillette by set scores of 6-1, 6-3.
Bovard battled hard in her No. 2 singles match, coming back from a 6-2 loss in the first set to take the second set 6-4. The North Carolina native ultimately fell in the third set, 6-3.
