Tennis Sweeps Trinity Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (2-7, 1-4 ODAC) turned in a dominant 7-0 sweep over the Trinity Washington Tigers (1-4) in Washington, D.C. The Vixens controlled the match from the start, taking all three doubles contests before rolling through singles to complete the shutout.

In doubles, seniors Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) and Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) earned a 6-0 win at No. 1, junior Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) and sophomore Ari Venturi (Richmond, Va.) won 6-0 at No. 2, and senior Megan Vess (Goodview, Va.) and sophomore Gianna Guadagno (Huntington Beach, Calif.)  finished with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.

Sweet Briar then won every singles match, with Guilarte, Bovard, Minton, Venturi, and Guadagno all posting straight-set victories, while Vess closed out a three-set win at No. 6 after dropping the second set.

The result was a complete team performance for Sweet Briar, which did not surrender a match point in four of the six singles bouts and cruised to the clean sweep.

  • Sweet Briar remains undefeated against Trinity Washington with an 8-0 program record.
