COCOA BEACH, Fla. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (0-2, 0-1 ODAC) dropped a 7–0 decision to the St. Mary's College (Ind.) Belles on Sunday morning in Florida, as the Vixens opened their Spring Break slate.
St. Mary's grabbed early momentum by securing the doubles point with wins at courts two and three, despite a competitive effort from Sweet Briar's top duo of seniors
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) and
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela), who took the 6–2 victory at No. 1 doubles.
In singles, Guilarte battled at the top spot, pushing the opening set to a tiebreak before ultimately falling 7–6 (7-2), 6–2 at No. 1. Bovard and junior
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) each collected games in both of their singles sets at Nos. 2 and 3. At the same time, teammates, senior
Atty Bestwick (Durham, N.C.), sophomore
Ari Venturi (Richmond, Va.) and senior
Megan Vess (Goodview, Va.) contested matches on courts four through six, with Bestwick taking two games in her first set of action.
