SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College softball team (14-20, 3-11 ODAC) was taken down by the No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins (34-0, 16-0 ODAC) in both games of today's doubleheader
Game One
Sweet Briar was shut out 11-0 in five innings by Virginia Wesleyan, but the box score showed solid moments at the plate and a busy defensive game on the mound and in the field.
In the first inning, Sweet Briar went down in order except for a two-out single by first-year
Sophia Peterson (Ashland, Va.).
The fifth inning was Sweet Briar's best offensive chance, with junior
Jordan Dorrier (Buckingham, Va.) opening the frame with a single.
Game Two
Sweet Briar was held scoreless in game two as Virginia Wesleyan pulled away for a 9-0 win.
The game went scoreless in the first two innings before the Marlins broke through with a four-run third inning. The visitors tacked on an additional run in the fourth and five in the fifth to take the 9-0 victory after five.
Highlights
- Senior Alyssa O'Quinn (Powhatan, Va.), junior Ambyre Taylor (Arrington, Va.) and sophomore Abi Sawyers (Matthews, N.C.) all recorded a strikeout in game two.
- Dorrier and Peterson led the team in hits in game one.
