SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College softball team (18-20, 7-11 ODAC) closed out home action in 2026 with two victories against the Randolph College WildCats (3-29, 1-17 ODAC) by scores of 4-2 in game one and 8-0 in game two.
Game One
Sweet Briar jumped on top in the first inning as junior
Jordan Martin (Wilmington, N.C.) started the rally with a single, senior
Kaylie Hudson (Lynchburg, Va.) moved the action along with a bunt single and first-year
Sophia Peterson (Ashland, Va.) followed with an RBI single to bring Martin home. Later in the inning, sophomore
Abi Sawyers (Matthews, N.C.) lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score Hudson and make it 2-0.
Sweet Briar added to its lead in the third when junior
Ambyre Taylor (Arrington, Va.) doubled to right field and later came around sophomore
Annie Purvis (Madison Heights, Va.) singled to center for an RBI, pushing the advantage to 3-1. Randolph answered in the top half, but Sweet Briar kept control of the game.
Sweet Briar created some breathing room in the sixth after Sawyers doubled and Purvis drew a walk, senior
Anna Smith (Rocky Mount, Va.) doubled to left field to score Sawyers and restore a two-run cushion at 4-2. Randolph went scoreless in the seventh, and Sweet Briar closed it out from there.
Game Two
Sweet Briar scored three times in the first inning and Sawyers delivered the big blow with a two-run triple to right that brought home Peterson and Hudson and then junior
Jordan Dorrier (Buckingham, Va.) added an RBI groundout to score Sawyers and make it 3-0.
In the second inning, Sweet Briar added two more runs off a Martin double to left to score junior
Ruby Hite (Clarksville, Va.), and Hudson followed with an RBI single to center that plated Martin for a 5-0 advantage.
Sweet Briar broke it open in the sixth with three more runs. Martin singled in sophomore
Sydney Gibson (Fluvanna County, Va.), Hudson reached on a fielding error that scored senior
Ilka-Marie Kuleba (Endy, N.C.) and then Martin came home on a wild pitch to finish the scoring at 8-0.
Highlights
- Taylor recorded eight strikeouts in the circle of game one.
- Sawyers saw action in the circle in game two for her second-straight shutout.
