SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (3-11, 2-8 ODAC) edged the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets (9-6, 5-3 ODAC) 4-3 at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center this evening to conclude the season with a victory on Senior Day.
The Vixens started the match off with one victory in doubles play at the hands of the No. 1 pairing of seniors
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) and
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela), 6-4.
In singles play, Sweet Briar rallied to capture four points and the overall victory.
Junior
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) secured a straight-set win over Victoria Updike at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1 for the first point of the match.
Guilarte then took down Camilla Thurman at No. 1, also in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 to bring Sweet Briar's point total to two and the match score to 2-3.
Bovard tied things up thanks to a 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 victory at No. 2 against Catherine Mowry.
The victory was clinched at the hands of sophomore
Ari Venturi (Richmond, Va.), who battled in a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 5.

- Venturi is undefeated this season when contesting three-set matches.
