Lacrosse Overpowered by Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team (0-10, 0-4 ODAC) was overpowered on the road today by the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets (9-4, 3-2 ODAC), falling by a score of 28-0.

Sweet Briar faced immediate pressure, as the hosts controlled the opening draw and scored at 14:40 of the first quarter. Randolph-Macon kept piling on through the rest of the first period, building a 12-0 lead before the break, while Sweet Briar totaled one shot in the half and had to defend repeatedly against a much busier attack.

The second quarter followed the same pattern, with Randolph-Macon striking at 14:10, 12:00, 9:46, 7:36, 5:26, and 2:35 to extend the margin to 18-0 by halftime. Sophomore goalkeeper Geneva Seitz (Havre de Grace, Md.) remained active in goal and made saves throughout the half to limit further damage against a relentless shot volume.

Randolph-Macon kept its foot on the gas in the third quarter, scoring four more times to push the lead to 23-0. Sweet Briar showed a little more resistance in the middle stages of the game, with first-years Hadyn Kuhns (Spotsylvania, Va.) and Lyndsay Davis (Mocksville, N.C.) involved in defensive efforts and ground-ball work, but the Vixens still struggled to sustain possessions or clear cleanly.

The final quarter brought more of the same as Randolph-Macon added five more goals to finish the 28-0 shutout. Sweet Briar continued to battle through the end, and Seitz stayed busy in net with several more stops. Even in a lopsided result, the Vixens showed effort in transition defense and in the cage, where Seitz was under heavy fire all night.

Highlights
  • First-year Caitlin Weaver (Wellford, S.C.) led the team in shots.
  • Davis won six draws, the most of any player in the game.
