SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar College is now accepting nominations for its bi-annual Athletics & Riding Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The submission period for nominations will run from July 6th through August 6th.
The Sweet Briar College Athletic and Riding Hall of Fame honors special achievement by alumnae or other contributors who have been associated with athletics and riding at the College. We recognize the positive relationship that exists between those traits and attributes that are developed, encouraged, and fostered in athletics and their important role in the total life of a person once they leave the College.
In addition, the Sweet Briar College Athletic and Riding Hall of Fame recognizes those individuals who, through participation, support, or interest, have made outstanding contributions to Sweet Briar College athletics. These individuals have helped bring recognition, honor, distinction, and excellence to Sweet Briar College and the intercollegiate athletics program.
For selection purposes, the term "varsity sport" includes all sports recognized by the College as competing at the highest level since 1906. The intent is to honor the best athletes of any given class, regardless of the rubric under which they competed.
The College and Department of Athletics are once again asking for nominations of former student-athletes, administrators, staff, contributors, coaches, or teams for a Fall 2026 induction ceremony.
The nominating criteria for each category are as follows:
Student-Athlete
- Graduate of Sweet Briar College;
- Five years removed from completion of athletic eligibility;
- Must have demonstrated outstanding athletic achievement or leadership in sport(s) in which they participated;
- Positively represented Sweet Briar both as an undergraduate and as an alumna.
Coaches, Administrators, Staff, or Contributors
- Five years removed from completion of service at Sweet Briar College;
- Have conducted themselves in a fashion such as to bring credit to Sweet Briar College for a minimum of five years;
- Demonstrated exemplary service and/or contributions to the growth and development of the Sweet Briar College athletic programs.
Team
- Brought recognition and prominence to Sweet Briar College;
- Five years removed from the season in which the team is being recognized;
- The induction of a team shall not prohibit the separate induction of one or more of its members.
Nominations submitted via the online nomination form will be given to the members of the nominating committee for review.
