CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (0-1, 0-0 ODAC) opened the 2026 campaign on the road at Wilson College Phoenix (1-0, 0-0 UEC) on Tuesday, falling 6–1.
The Vixens withstood sustained early pressure in a scoreless opening quarter, thanks in large part to junior
Reiyn Hart (Bridgton, Maine) in goal. Hart made four first-quarter saves, as Sweet Briar kept the match level through the first 15 minutes.
Wilson broke through early in the second quarter, scoring at 16:51. Sweet Briar answered with its first penalty corner of the day at 18:10, taken by first-year
Liv Werner (Fredericksburg, Va.), but Wilson added three more goals during the quarter to take a 4–0 lead into halftime.
Hart continued to battle in the cage after the break, turning aside three more shots in the third quarter. Sweet Briar also began to generate momentum on the attacking end, earning four penalty corners in the period. Werner created two dangerous opportunities, with Wilson recording defensive saves on both a 33:04 shot by junior
Larkin Shire (Caroline County, Va.) and a 37:40 attempt by Werner.
The Vixens converted their pressure into a goal at 37:59. Sophomore
Antonia Supino (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) set up senior
Emmi Burdine (Huntington Beach, Calif.), who scored Sweet Briar's first goal of the season to cut the deficit to 5–1. Burdine finished with a goal on her lone shot and played all 60 minutes, while Supino recorded the assist in a complete-game effort.
Wilson answered at 39:31, but Sweet Briar continued to press late in the third quarter. Werner helped lead the effort with four penalty-corner opportunities for the Vixens, while Shire and Werner each placed a shot on goal during Sweet Briar's three-shot third period.
Hart capped her complete-game performance with a save in the fourth quarter and finished with 12 total saves. Werner, Shire and Burdine each registered a shot on goal for the Vixens, while Supino's assist highlighted Sweet Briar's scoring play.
