CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Sweet Briar College volleyball team (0-9, 0-1 ODAC) opened its Saturday matchup against the Johnson & Wales University Charlotte Wildcats (3-9) with a competitive first set before the Wildcats claimed a 3-0 victory.
The Vixens recorded four kills in the opening frame, with sophomore
Rachael Hunt (Willow Spring, N.C.) posting three kills to lead the early attack. Hunt also added a service ace, while first-year
Nadia Bingham (Chesapeake, Va.) distributed the offense with nine assists over the course of the match. Johnson & Wales Charlotte took the first set, 25-14.
Sweet Briar continued to battle in the second set. First-year
Amanda Mason (Sunrise, Fla.) provided a lift with two kills on four swings, finishing the match with a team-best .500 hitting percentage. The Vixens also received a kill apiece from first-year
Kylee Cox (Paris, Ill.) and senior
Emily Roberts (Walkertown, N.C.) during the match, while Hunt finished with a team-high three kills. The Wildcats earned the second set, 25-11.
In the third set, Sweet Briar's offense posted its best hitting percentage of the afternoon at .056. First-year
Tali Saunders (Elizabeth City, N.C.) recorded a kill, while Bingham and Mason each contributed service aces. Johnson & Wales Charlotte completed the sweep with a 25-9 set victory.
