GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Sweet Briar College volleyball team (0-12, 0-2 ODAC) competed in two matches today against the Methodist University Monarchs (5-7, 2-2 USA South) and the Greensboro College Pride (13-2, 4-1 USA South).
The Vixens fell to the Monarchs, 3-0, with set scores of 25-9, 25-10, and 25-19 and to the Pride, 3-0, with set scores of 25-8, 25-9, and 25-14.
vs Methodist University
In the first set Sweet Briar was able to record three kills, with one from sophomore
Rachael Hunt (Williow Spring, N.C.) and two from first-year
Addison Garner (Elizabeth City, N.C.). The Vixens worked to generate momentum throughout the set, but Methodist ultimately took control and ended the set with a score of 25-9.
The Vixens continued to battle defensively in the second sent, with first-year
Kylee Cox (Paris, Ill.) contributing a kill, but Methodist's attack remained efficient as they took set two 25-10.
Sweet Briar turned in its strongest offensive effort of the afternoon in the third set. The Vixens totaled seven kills and stayed competitive during a set that featured six tie scores and three lead changes. Methodist ultimately pulled away for a 25-19 victory to complete the sweep.
vs Greensboro College
Greensboro established control early in the opening set, limiting Sweet Briar to two kills from first-year
Nadia Bingham (Chesapeake, Va.) First-year
Allie de Moet (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) also added a service ace to help keep Sweet Briar competitive, but Greensboro used a strong service effort to pull away for the 25-8 set win.
Sweet Briar again fought through the second set as Greensboro claimed a 25-9 decision. The Vixens produced two more kills, with Hunt and Garner contributing on the attack. Sophomore
Jaelyn Wood (Charlottesville, Va.) and Bingham both added a service ace during the set, but Greensboro maintained pressure from the service line and built its two-set advantage.
The Vixens delivered their best offensive showing of the match in the third set, recording four kills. De Moet led Sweet Briar in the set with three kills, and senior
Emily Roberts (Walkertown, N.C.) added one. Sweet Briar also recorded three service aces in the final frame, two from first-year
Addy Phillips (Stafford, Va.) and one from first-year
Amanda Mason (Sunrise, Fla.), but Greensboro closed out the match with a 25-14 set victory.
Highlights
- Bingham and de Moet led the team with five kills each between the two matches.
- Wood led the team with 12 digs between the two matches.

The Vixens will return home to face Hollins University on Sept. 29th.
