ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Sweet Briar College volleyball team (0-4, 0-0 ODAC) fell to the St. Mary's College of Maryland Seahawks (2-2, 0-0 UEC) tonight by set scores of 25-20, 25-9, and 25-13.
The Vixens came out with their best stretch of the night in the first set, staying close with the Seahawks through four tie scores and one lead change. Sweet Briar held its ground defensively and kept the margin manageable, but St. Mary's finished the set with a 25-20 win.
St. Mary's gained control in the second set, pulling away for a 25-9 victory. Sweet Briar continued to work through extended rallies but were unable to close the gap.
The Vixens remained determined in the third set and competed through an early tie before St. Mary's gained separation. The Seahawks went on to take the set 25-13 and finish the match in three straight sets.
