Jill was the most outstanding diver in the early years of the Varsity Swimming and Diving Team. At that time, diving accounted for a significant percentage of the point total determining the winner of meets. Sweet Briar divers were consistently the best of the neighboring schools. Jill contributed to the program's first-place finish in the VAIAW Small College Championships in 1978, the program's first year as a team, and to Sweet Briar's top-two finishes in the Championship meets in the two following years. She holds pool and school diving records that will never be broken.

Jill has distinguished herself as a prominent artist in Provence, France. She always speaks highly of the Sweet Briar faculty and coaches who mentored her. Each year, she does tours and conducts art workshops in the U.S. Part of the proceeds from some of these tours were given to Sweet Briar. She donated paintings to Sweet Briar, including a beautiful painting of the Upper Quad displayed on a webpage called "The Whiteman Years". She also designed scarves that were given to alumnae commemorating Mary Pope Hutson's inauguration as Sweet Briar's first Alumna President. Jill has been generous in offering hospitality to alumnae and students at her home in Provence and has taught many in her workshops.

Diving was an important part of the Varsity Swimming and Diving program in its early years. Jill was the most accomplished diver. With her humble demeanor, strong work ethic, and extreme dedication to her sport and team, she was highly respected and valued as a leader on our team.
