Sweet Briar College

Kit rode all four years at Sweet Briar and also served as Head of the Riding Council. She credits her time spent with Sweet Briar's Riding Director, Clayton E. Bailey, as the key to unlocking the framework of the American Forward Riding System. Kit, in turn, used this philosophy as a basis for her lifetime of teaching riding lessons to riders of all levels and distinctions.

As a professional horse trainer for multiple decades, Kit has trained many horses and riders to win at the national level. Many of her students have gone on to become professional horse trainers. Her students often remark that Kit's influence is about more than just riding lessons; she teaches life lessons, too.

Throughout her career, Kit held AHSA judges' cards, was an Advisory Board member of the ANRC for many years, and was a founding Board member of the SWVHJA. She was honored with the USHJA's Jane Marshall Dillon Award for dedication and excellence as a riding instructor. She taught riding at SBC periodically over the years on an interim basis and enjoyed spending time with SBC horses and riders. She is a mentor to many horsewomen who seek her wisdom.
