The Vixen field hockey team fought a hard battle against
Virginia Wesleyan today at Thayer Field; in the end it would be the
Marlins who won with a score of 5-0. The statistics did
not reflect how well the Vixens played. “It's hard
because hockey does not have statistics for midfield play, accurate
passes, or never giving up. The girls played a great game today
forcing Virginia Wesleyan to execute, and that's exactly what
they did. I could not have been more proud of their progress
and their willingness to never let up,” said coach
Lamina.
Scoring for the Marlins first was number 18 Courtney Eisekt,
with a penalty stroke against first year goalkeeper Lori Kirkland
(Glen Allen, Va.). Kirkland came up with six saves in her first
start of the season. The second goal of the half came from
Whitney King when she lifted the ball over Kirkland who dove and
saved the initial shot. The first half ended with Vixens 0,
Marlins 2.
The Marlins continued to finish around the cage scoring three
more unanswered goals in the second half. The Vixens came up
with a total of seven penalty corners on the day.
The Vixens are back in action on Saturday to host Transylvania
at 1 pm. Also, it is Senior Day, so come on out and
support the Vixen Hockey Team.
