SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar College Head Field Hockey Coach
Isabella Kondi will be departing the College after one season at the helm of the program.
Kondi has decided to step away from Sweet Briar for a position at Vermont State University, Castleton. A coach with deep personal roots and strong family ties to the area, Kondi's decision reflects a commitment to balancing professional responsibilities with the importance of family. Her new position in Vermont will allow her to remain closely connected to her family while continuing her coaching career.
"It was evident from the very first day of practice that Coach Kondi had established a strong, meaningful connection with her student-athletes," remarked Director of Athletics Donna Hodgert. "She consistently challenged them to perform at their highest level while maintaining a supportive environment. This balance fostered a cohesive and unified team that competed with purpose, passion and heart."
While her time at Sweet Briar was brief, her impact was meaningful. During her lone season, she helped continue the overall high level of play, competitive mindset and value of teamwork. Among the highlights of the year was a thrilling overtime victory against Meredith College to cap off a season that showcased the team's resilience and determination.
Reflecting on her past season with the Vixens, Kondi stated, "I am incredibly grateful for my time at Sweet Briar College and the opportunity to lead and grow within such a special community. Coaching at Sweet Briar has been a meaningful and rewarding experience, and I am proud of the relationships built with our student-athletes, staff and the broader campus. This decision was not made lightly. Ultimately, I have chosen to pursue an opportunity that allows me to be closer to home and my family, which is a priority for me at this stage in my life."
A search for the next head coach of the program will begin immediately. Sweet Briar is committed to identifying the next leader who will build upon the foundation of this resilient program with over 100 years of history.
