The Vixens are looking to make a change in the conference this
year. Their team motto is "Attitude." "If we change our
attitude, I believe we can really change the way hockey is played
at Sweet Briar. This is a great group of girls that have shown me
they can be pushed. I am really excited about what this
season will bring," said new head coach Jess Lamina.
The Vixens are going to rely on the strong leaderships skills of
seniors Melissa Carron (Grosse Pointe, MI) and Sara Sheppard
(Virginia Beach, VA). Carron will be starting at the
demanding role of center midfield, but her communication skills and
ability to read the field should prove to be an integral part of
the Vixen attack and defense. Sheppard will lead the
defensive unit as the sweeper this year. She has the ability
to halt would-be attackers with her knowledge of the game as well
as her presence in the backfield.
On the front line this season look for junior Alicia Modzelewski
(Virginia Beach, VA), sophomore Alanna Keane (N. Attleboro, MA),
and sophomore Ariel Yoder (Winston Salem, NC). All three
forwards were an integral part of last year's program and will help
to keep the Vixens scoring this year.
Left midfield will be filled by Junior Lindsay Eneguess
(Peterborough, NH). Lindsay brings to the team a spark that
could not be filled by any other player. The Vixens draw on
this not only during game time but at practice as well. Filling the
right mid-position, look for sophomore Sarah Winstead (Apex, NC).
Sarah is a true fighter on the right side, a real student of the
game. She is constantly improving and applying new
ideas.
Rounding out the backfield this year will be junior Maggie
McNamara (Arlington, VA), sophomore Alexandra St. Pierre (So.
Hamilton, MA) and first year Julie Dopheide (Glen Mills, PA).
The back line will bring stability as St. Pierre will lead by
playing center mid. The defensive unit as a whole is working
well together and growing stronger every day.
Between the pipes this year you will find sophomore Madeline
Wilson (Orange, VA). Madeline was goalkeeper for most of last
season and led her team by example. Another familiar goalie
this season is returner sophomore goalkeeper Emma Rakosky (Ellicott
City, MD). You may also see first year newcomers Lori
Kirkland (Glen Allen, VA) and Brooke Scott (Houston, TX).
Don't be surprised if you recognize some familiar faces subbing in
this season as the Vixens return junior midfielder Jane Craddock
(Charlottesville, VA), and junior forward Laura Wolf (Yorklyn,
DE). New faces also contributing this year are first year
players Jerri Elliott (Chesapeake, VA) and Angela Curtis
(Virginia Beach, VA).
