Vixens Topple Owls

Box Score

BRYN MAWR, Pa. --- The Sweet Briar College field hockey team picked up their second win of the season Saturday afternoon, grabbing a 1-0 victory over the Owls at Bryn Mawr College.  Sophomore Loralei Whittaker (Chesapeake, Va.) scored the deciding goal in the 45th minute.

The Vixens carried the play for much of the first half, dominating possession for long stretches.   However, while Sweet Briar held a 7-4 shot advantage, could not find the goal-scoring touch.  Whittaker had the best opportunity to score as she dribbled in from the top right of the circle to put a shot on goal with under a minute remaining in the half.

Whittaker would fire three more shots toward the goal in the opening minutes of the second half, before breaking through with her first goal of the season at 44:07.  First year Adelaide Hedge (Winston-Salem, N.C.) picked up the assist on the goal as she fed the insert to Whittaker on the Vixen corner.  Whittaker collected the ball on the right side of the circle and drove the ball past Owl goalkeeper Elizabeth Toft ('12/Berkely Heights, N.J.).

Collecting her second shutout in a span of eight days was Vixen netminder Madeline Wilson ('12/Orange, Va.).  Wilson turned away three shots on goal from the Owls and delivered the victory for Sweet Briar.

The Vixens return to play tomorrow as they head to Cedar Crest College to take on the Falcons at 1pm.
