Vixens and Eagles Battle on Homecoming

Box Score

SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- The Sweet Briar Field Hockey team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the Eagles of Bridgewater College on Saturday in front of a sprited crowd of 150 families and alumna.

The game was scoreless until into the 61st minute when Joan Burleson (Newport News, Va. / Menchville) tucked the ball inside the left post under a sprawling Katie Torretti (Lemon Grove, Calif. / Bishops School).  Torretti was sparkling in goal for the Vixens.  She made several dazzling stops on her way to a career-best 23 saves.

The Vixens played stout defense and Coach Jess Lamina noted,  "the team effort was incredible today.  I am so proud of the every player."  Before the game, Coach Lamina also honored her two seniors Alyssa Berkeley (Lynchburg, Va. / Heritage) and Brooke Scott (Kemah, Texas / Episcopal) for their contributions to Vixen field hockey.

Sweet Briar will return to action on Thursday when they host Lynchburg College on Thursday, October 25, at 4:30p.m.
