Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- In second day action at the Thayer Classic, the Sweet Briar field hockey team fell to the the Owls of Bryn Mawr 9-2. The game closed out the opening weekend tourney that included Cedar Crest College and Rivier College.
For the Vixens, first-year Hannah Oybkhan (Wilmington, Del./Caravel Academy) scored her second goal as in as many career games when she took a feed in the 29th minute from Kim Orchowski (Crofton, Md./Arundel) on the right side and found the back of the cage. In the second half, junior Megan Thompson (Newport News, Va./Warwick) scored her first goal by tipping in a rocket shot from midfielder Loralei Whittaker (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch).
In goal for Sweet Briar, senior Brooke Scott (Kemah, Tex./Episcopal) made twelve saves on the day.
The Owls were led by forward Madison Beckmann (Wildwood, Mo./Whitfield). The sophomore tallied a hat trick for Bryn Mawr. In addition to her three goals, Beckmann assisted on two other scores.
Earlier in the day, Cedar Crest College outlasted Rivier College 4-3.
Sweet Briar is off until Friday, September 14 when they host Sewanee in a non-conference match beginning at 3:30 p.m.
