Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- The Vixen field hockey team hosted a Saturday afternoon matchup against the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University. The win was the first for the Royals in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.
For Eastern Mennonite, nine different goals scorers found the back of the cage. Meanwhile, Sweet Briar was on the defensive for most of the game. The back line of the Sweet Briar defense was tested throughout the day. Defender Adelaide Hedge (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mt. Tabor) had a strong game for the Vixens. First years Eve Mergenthaler (Litchfield, Conn./Litchfield) and Molly Van Buren (New Haven, Vt./Mt. Abraham) contributed dazzling defensive saves for Sweet Briar.
In goal, Brooke Scott (Kemah, Tx./Episcopal) made a career-high 23 saves in just under 52 minutes of action. First year Katie Torretti (Lemon Grove, Calif./Bishops School) stopped two shots in 18 minutes of relief work.
Sweet Briar returns to action on Wednesday, September 26, hosting Frostburg State in a non-conference tilt. The action gets underway at 4:30p.m. at Thayer Field.
