Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va.--- The Sweet Briar field hockey honored its three seniors in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday afternoon. Brooke Scott (Kemah, Tex./Episcopal), Megan Thompson (Newport News, Va./Warwick)and Loralei Whittaker (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) were fêted before SBC's matchup with Roanoke. The Maroons came out of top in the contest, 3-0.
Sweet Briar and Roanoke were scoreless through the the first stanza. The second half was more of the same, with both teams getting opportunities early. Thompson had two shots on goal for the Vixens in the half. The game remained 0-0 until the 58th minute. Kelly Jasinski (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) was able to chip a shot in past SBC goal keeper Skylar Rowan (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School). After Kelly Finn (Fairhaven, N.J./Rumson Fair Haven) scored off a rebound for RC, Jasinski added a penalty stroke goal in the 68th minute to round out the scoring.
Rowan finished the day with 14 saves. Eve Mergenthaler (Litchfield, Conn./Litchfield) chipped in with her ODAC-leading 12th defensive save of the season.
Sweet Briar is off until next Sunday, when they travel to Bridgewater for a 1 p.m. match.
