Box Score

Roanoke scored twice in the opening 3:34, as the Maroons defeated the Sweet Briar field hockey team 8-1 on Wednesday.

Caroline Peterson and Shelbi Holloman each slipped shots past SBC goalie Katie Torretti into the left side of the cage 36 seconds apart, to give the hosts a quick 2-0 lead.

Kellie Jasinski made it 3-0 16:17 into the game, with another unassisted score.

Roanoke's Jacklyn Farides and Emily McQueen assisted each other on goals just 1:21 apart, giving the Maroons a 5-0 first half advantage.

Roanoke added one more before the break, with Holloman beating Torretti to her right side.

Sophomore Allison McLamb led the Vixens with three shots, and scored their goal early in the second half. After three Roanoke shots missed, the Vixens countered the other way and McLamb finished off the play for her team-leading fourth tally of the season.

Four minutes later, Holloman completed her hat trick for a 7-0 Roanoke advantage.

The Vixens put together some sustained attack, with Rachel Lenihan's shot saved and Sweet Briar earning a penalty corner. The visitors couldn't find a second goal however.

Sweet Briar falls to 0-10, 0-2 ODAC, and travels to Shenandoah on Saturday.
