Box Score The Sweet Briar College field hockey team grabbed its first victory of the season, shutting down Ferrum 3-0 in a rematch with the Panthers.
The Vixens had hosted Ferrum on September 4, losing 2-1 despite holding an advantage in both shots and penalty corners.
Senior Kimberly Orchowski had a hand in all three scoring plays, totaling a goal and two assists. Dayze Gaulin scored the game-winner, and first-year Soleiby Delcid tallied her first goal of the season.
SBC had two consecutive corners later in the first half, their first two of the contest, but could not get a shot on goal from the opportunity.
Sweet Briar earned a third corner in the 26th minute and this time made good on it, as Gaulin scored from Orchowski's assist to put the Vixens ahead.
With just over nine minutes to play, Orchowski found Delcid to double Sweet Briar's lead.
Orchowski then scored the clinching goal in the 64th minute to complete the victory.
Sweet Briar had attacked right from the start, with Orchowski putting a shot on goal 25 seconds in that was saved by Ferrum goalie Courtney Gosslin.
Ferrum had a shot blocked in the 10th minute, the only other attempt by either side in the opening 25 minutes.
The Vixens and starting defenders Adelaide Hedge, Eve Mergenthaler, Emily Dallas and Molly Van Buren locked down their Ferrum counterparts, not allowing a single shot on goal for the entire 70 minutes.
Sweet Briar (1-12) will travel to Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday for an ODAC contest.
