Box Score The Sweet Briar field hockey team kept second-place Bridgewater to two goals in the opening 43 minutes, before the Eagles pulled away for a 5-0 final.
It was Homecoming weekend for Sweet Briar, and Senior Day for two Vixen captains- Adelaide Hedge and Kimberly Orchowski.
Bridgewater's Taylor Prillaman scored twice in the opening five-and-a-half minutes, both off assists from Rachael Loy.
The Vixens regrouped however, and did not allow another goal until Prillaman passed a rebound to Caroline Augsburger in the 44th minute.
Junior Eve Mergenthaler went into the game late as a kicking back and recorded three saves in the final 63 seconds of the game. First she blocked both Kaitlyn Harris and Alexandra Clement off a penalty corner, and followed with another stop on Clement.
Mergenthaler finished with five defensive saves total to set a new Sweet Briar single season record (23), and move into sixth all-time in NCAA Division III with 40 career stops.
Junior Katie Torretti made 12 saves for the Vixens. First-year Emily Dodson also returned to action in the cage and made a nice high block on Elizabeth Washington in the second half.
MacKenzie Zabicki tapped in Loy's cross for a 4-0 lead, and Bridgewater capped the scoring on Shannon Strosser's shot that skipped over Dodson.
The Vixens fall to 1-14, 0-6 ODAC and travel to Virginia Wesleyan on Monday.
