Vixens Lose in Home Finale:

Sweet Briar had its final home game over the weekend, celebrating Homecoming along with Senior Day for captains Adelaide Hedge and Kimberly Orchowski. Junior Eve Mergenthaler made five defensive saves in the game to set a new Sweet Briar single season record of 23.

Mergenthaler Moves to 6th All-Time:

Mergenthaler improved her career total to 40 defensive saves, which is now sixth all time in NCAA Division III. Mergenthaler, the national leader this season and second active leader in Division III behind Wesley senior Brooke Gannon (46), currently has the 10th-highest single season total in D-III history.

Stat Watch:

With two games to play, the Vixens have nearly doubled their goal total from 2013, scoring 14 compared to eight last year. Sweet Briar is putting 67% of its shots on goal after shooting 55% last season.

Defensively, the Vixens' goals allowed per game average has dipped slightly from 4.24 to 4.50. Goalie Katie Torretti has stopped 74.2% of her shots faced, just ahead of 2013's 73.9 percentage.

Scouting Virginia Wesleyan:

The Marlins are playing for a potential playoff spot tonight, as they sit one game behind Roanoke and Eastern Mennonite for the sixth and final ODAC place. A Marlin win combined with EMU and Roanoke losses on Wednesday would send the three teams to a conference tiebreaker that considers goals against and goal differential.

Despite a 3-13 overall team record and a six-game losing streak, starting goalkeeper Lindsay Baker is still allowing just north of two goals per game, with 121 saves and one shutout.

Previous Meeting:

The Vixens kept the Marlins scoreless into the second half, but Nikki Cuthbert broke the ice with her first of two goals as Virginia Wesleyan pulled away for a 5-0 final.

Scouting Washington & Lee:

The Generals (9-7, 3-4) are likely to finish in fifth place heading into the ODAC playoffs. W&L's forward line includes sophomore Maggie Waxter (11g, 4a), junior Charlotte MacDonald (8g, 2a) and senior Candice Stefanic (7g).

Previous Meeting:

Opposite to SBC's game against Virginia Wesleyan, the Vixens held Washington & Lee scoreless in the second half but fell 3-0 following a trio of first period tallies.
