Senior Kimberly Orchowski scored for the Vixens with just over eight minutes remaining, after senior Adelaide Hedge had played in a penalty corner.
Hedge also made a defensive save in the second half, denying an attempt from Shenandoah's Lauren Kesler.
Junior Eve Mergenthaler made a defensive save on Ashley Cross in the first half, with Cross' next shot being blocked.
Mergenthaler would make another first half defensive save on Sarah Brock, but Brock passed the rebound to Moriah Woods for a 2-0 Shenandoah lead.
The Hornets opened the scoring in the fourth minute, on a counterattack from Presha Merritt.
The Vixens attacked immediately after the goal, but two Dayze Gaulin shots were both saved by SU goalie Jenna Rampale.
Brock made it 3-0 one minute before halftime, after Katie Torretti (15 saves) had stopped the initial shot from Morgan Lingo.
The Hornets added one more in the second half, with Kelani Bailey slapping in a penalty corner from Brock.
Brock led all scorers with a goal and two assists, with Shenandoah totaling 28 penalty corners for the match.
Sweet Briar falls to 0-11, 0-3 and will host Randolph-Macon on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
