Sweet Briar Soccer Takes On Bitter Rival Hollins

ROANOKE, Va.- The Sweet Briar College soccer team played its final match of 2017 when taking on Hollins University on Saturday afternoon. Despite taking more than twice as many shots as Hollins, Sweet Briar was unable to take advantage of all their opportunities and lost the match, 2-1.

First-year Catherine Ford scored her second goal of the season in the 24th minute to give the Vixens a lead, but before the half Hollins was able to even the score. After a scoreless start to the second half, Hollins scored the decisive goal in the 77th minute. 

As a team, SBC took 29 shots with 19 finding their way on the frame. Senior Alexa Dahlin led the team with eight total shots, followed by first-years Lera Cordner and Caylin Newman who each took four shots. In total, ten Vixens registered shots in the match. 

Along with taking 18 more shots than Hollins, Sweet Briar earned three more corners and committed five fewer fouls. 

Sam Holtons started her eighth match of the season and made eight saves in 90 minutes of action. 

Sweet Briar will end its season with a 1-14 record.
