Sweet Briar Hockey Opens Season at NDMU

The Sweet Briar College field hockey team opened its 2017 season with a match at Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday afternoon. The host Gators came away victorious in the match, winning 5-0.

Making her first collegiate start in goal, first-year Rosemary Austin was tested all afternoon. The Commerce Township, Mich. native made 14 saves in the losing effort.

Senior Rachel Rogers did her best to help on the defensive end, registering two defensive saves. The two stops mark the first of Rogers' collegiate career. Sophomore Anastasia Tristan also registered her first career defensive save in the match.

The Vixens will be right back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Eastern Mennonite University. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.
