Vixens edged 3-0 by Panthers, keepers stop 19

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Goalkeepers Rosemary Austin and Janie Bolling stopped 19 shots on Wednesday afternoon as Sweet Briar dropped a 3-0 decision to the Ferrum Panthers at Shellenberger Field on the campus of the University of Lynchburg.

Austin (Commerce Township, Mich.), a sophomore, made six saves in the first period to hold the score at 0-0 entering hafltime between the Vixens (1-4) and Panthers (2-5). The Vixens' forced Ferrum's Mia Holmes into a first half save when first-year Erin Orr (Detroit, Mich.) looked to break the draw in the ninth minute.

It was Emily Campbell of Ferrum who eventually broke through with the eventual game winner coming in the 43rd minute off an assist from Reagan Aldridge. 

Ferrum would net two additional goals before time expired.

First-year Emily Myers (Fredericksburg, Va.) delivered the Vixens' second shot on goal of the game in the 63rd minute of play.

Austin finished the day with 17 saves in, while Bolling (Hereford, Md.) recored two saves late in the second period.

The Vixens are slated to return home on Sunday, September 30, with a 1 p.m. scheduled start against Notre Dame of Maryland.
