SWEET BRIAR, Va. — The Sweet Briar NCEA team pushed No. 4 Texas A&M to the limit on Friday at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center with the Aggies breaking the 5-5 team score tie with an advantage in raw total score at the conclusion of the meet.
Sweet Briar won equitation over fences, 3-2, topping a Texas A&M team that was ranked No. 7 in fences with Sweet Briar at No. 8 in the first event rankings of the 2018-19 season.
First-year Britt Larson-Jackson (Washington, D.C.) got the day started for the Vixens with am impressive 82 point ride on Dimitri. First-year Maggie Fraley (White Haven, Pa.) scored an 88 as the final rider of the first round on Teddy, a performance that would earn Fraley Most Outstanding Performer for the first time in her collegiate career.
The second round opened with a Vixens point thanks to Larson-Jackson's ride, followed by a second team point coming from senior Emily Schlosberg (Fairfax, Va.). Schlosberg scored an 84 on Dorado before Fraley's ride held for a victory and a third team point, giving Sweet Briar the 3-2 advantage heading onto the flat.
Fraley secured the first Sweet Briar point on the flat with an 81 on Luciano, while Schlosberg tallied 81 on Emmett for the fifth and final Sweet Briar team point.
All five Sweet Briar riders scored 80 or more points on the flat.
With the team score tied at 5-5, total raw score determined the winner, with Texas A&M picking up the victory 821-786. Sweet Briar held a 409-408 advantage on the flat.
Fraley earned Most Outstanding Performer over fences, while the Aggies' Adele McKenna earned the honor on the flat by scoring a 90. Fraley is the third Vixen to earn MOP honors over fences this season, joining first-year Charlotte Hadley (Tiverton, R.I.) and Schlosberg.
The Vixens concluded the regular season with Friday's meet against Texas A&M and will await the NCEA Championships in Waco, Texas in April.
