Meyer makes 13 saves in loss to Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Sweet Briar first-year goalkeeper Katelyn Meyer tallied 13 saves as the Vixens fell 2-0 on the road to host Wilson on Wednesday afternoon.

"We came into the game looking to pressure the ball better and limit high quality shots," said head coach Jason Capps. "Each of the goals we gave up came directly from an error on those two things."

Wilson (4-2-0) opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Nora Hardman assisted on a goal from Noemi Regan, giving the Phoenix an early 1-0 lead over the Vixens (0-4-0).

Meyer (Smithsburg, Md.) was called into action following the opening goal as Wilson forced the Vixens' keeper into two saves over the next 10 minutes. The Phoenix broke through for a second goal in the 32nd minute when Danielle Stafford doubled the total for the hosts.

"Once we settled in we kept them scoreless in the second half and were a step off from a few opportunities up top," Capps said.

The second period saw Meyer add to her seven first half saves, with six in the final 45 minutes of action to keep Wilson scoreless in the final half.

"I would've really liked to see us at full strength today as it would've likely been a much different result and that is directly due to the progress we are making on and off the field as a program," Capps added. "Our team culture has laid a solid foundation, now we just need to get some pieces back on teh board to see it translate on the field."

Sweet Briar returns home for its next two matches, first hosting Piedmont International on Saturday at 4 p.m.
